IBM Cognos TM1 10.1
There is a lot of exciting stuff happening in the Business Analytics area. Last week, I wrote about the release of the personal analytics tool Cognos Insight. But there is more. Along with Cognos Insight, IBM also released the latest version of TM1. And let me tell you, IBM Cognos TM1 10.1 is a significant release. There is a lot of new and really exciting stuff in there. Here is a really short preview. If you want to see more, make sure to register for the official virtual launch on Wednesday, March 7th.
Performance Modeler
One of the most significant enhancements to TM1 10.1 is the addition of Performance Modeler. This is the environment where you can build and maintain the different models for planning, forecasting, profitability analysis and such. Performance Modeler provides new and highly visual tools for getting the work done. There are guided processes for standard tasks such as importing data and deploying models to end users.
Moving data around between models and model components is also a lot easier now (e.g. load financial targets into the annual budgeting application). Data flows can be designed using visual links. This technique is really quick and easy to learn.
These are just two examples of what Performance Modeler can do for you. There is obviously a lot more. I will write about some of the cool things in there next month.
Planning & forecasting is fun!
TM1 10.1 also provides a new way to deploy applications to the business. In addition to the traditional Excel and web deployment options, you can use the new Cognos Insight client to design and develop very interactive and visually pleasing planning, forecasting and analysis applications. This is pretty cool stuff. You can design models that include detailed verbal instructions, pictures, diagrams, interactive dashboards and many other things. This will make it even easier for the finance department to get the business involved. Rich commentary functionality is also included in this version. Professionals involved in the planning process will appreciate that.
IBM Cognos TM1 10.1
IBM Cognos TM1 10.1 has a lot to offer. The improvements are quite significant. The user experience is greatly enhanced and there are a lot of nice things ‘under the hood’ as well. I have not had the opportunity to play with this extensively but will hopefully do so in the near future. If you want to find out more about this release, make sure to register for the virtual launch event on March 7th.

Excellent information here, Christoph. Thanks for putting it together.
Thanks, Tim!
Like the data flow tool, this looks really good
Lots of bugs also need to be fixed.
I have loved using the performance modeler, such a great addition to an already exceptional tool.
My business is interested in signing on for Cognos. Would anybody be able to act as a reference or provide information/names of companies using Cognos today? Thank you
